The day was established in 2017 to highlight the work done by school bus drivers to get kids safely to and from school each day. Each day when he leaves, I am confident he will arrive back to his stop safely at the end of the day. Tomorrow is National School Bus Driver Appreciation Day. Each day, my son walks to the bus stop to ride a bus to school. In addition to being a superintendent, I am also a father. Drivers do it because they love children. Brad Rice, who is also a licensed school bus driver, said, “I can tell you from experience, driving a school bus is a challenging and demanding job. “Safety is our primary concern and we’re grateful to have bus drivers that are committed to serving our schools and work hard year after year to keep our children safe while on a school bus.”

The week of February 13 through 17 has been proclaimed by Governor Cooper as “School Bus Driver Appreciation Week” in North Carolina, and citizens are urged to recognize the excellence of our state’s school bus drivers and their record of safety.Įach school day in North Carolina over 13,000 school buses travel the roadways transporting nearly 780,000 students to and from school. The American School Bus Council created the campaign in 2007 to encourage schools to hold activities that highlight the safety of school bus transportation system and to recognize the many dedicated bus drivers who take students to and from school.
